Retrofitting, where do I start?

One of the first questions I get asked is “what is the process and where do I start?”. By the time you have contacted us you have already established that your home could be more comfortable and more energy efficient. Some of the issues are very obvious like replacing an old oil boiler while others are a bit of a conundrum, like addressing ventilation. You may already be aware of the SEAI grant scheme but the rest is one big question mark. It may seem from the outset that there is a lot of information to take in, but rest assured, it’s really straightforward with a One-Stop-Shop. We take care of everything from start to finish.

First on the list is a technical assessment of your home. The technical assessment or survey as it’s sometimes called, is a detailed analysis of your home. The assessment of your home takes approximately 2 hours and provides a great opportunity to discuss your expectations or additional questions with the assessor. The assessment involves a detailed analysis of the building fabric and areas that contribute to heat loss. If your home has a current BER we will use this information in our report. If your home does not have a current BER our assessors will be able to establish the BER as a starting point for our recommendations.

The results of the assessment enable us to draught a list of recommendations that will bring your home from it’s current BER to a minimum target of B2. Our recommendations are based on calculations that will bring the U value to 2.0 or below. The lower the U value, the better your home performs on energy efficiency. Our report will not only list the recommendations but also provide an accurate estimation of costs. The calculations also allow us to determine how much grant funding we can secure on your behalf. We will arrange a follow up call following the report to go through our findings and recommendations. If you are happy with our recommendations, the next step is to schedule the works.

As a one-stop-shop we take care of the project from start to finish. We organise the respective trades, project manage the works and manage the grant application. Post works, your home will be assigned a new BER by an independent assessor. It really is that simple and the benefits will be felt immediately.
